WIMAC Barbados Chapter Workshop: Mobilizing Networks for Gender Equality

Altus Regional is pleased to highlight the Workshop “Mobilizing Networks for Gender Equality”, hosted by the Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WIMAC) Barbados Chapter on 17 May 2024. This in-person one day workshop was coordinated and moderated by Natalie O. Sandiford, Managing Director of Altus Regional in her capacity as President of WIMAC Barbados Chapter.
This landmark event hosted under the International Maritime Organization’s 2024 theme “Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety” was delivered in observation of International Day for Women in Maritime 2024. The workshop explored how gender-responsive networks can strengthen safety, diversity and inclusion across the maritime and blue economy sectors. The dynamic event brought together women from ports, maritime security, sailing, and education to share experiences, build networks, and affirm their commitment to shaping the future of one of the region’s most vital industries.
The Workshop commenced with Opening Remarks from Natalie O. Sandiford in her capacity as President of WIMAC Barbados Chapter, followed by an address from the Director of Maritime Affairs. The Keynote Speech was delivered by the Secretary General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization. The morning session culminated in a Panel Discussion. For the afternoon half, participants engaged in interactive sessions which were recorded.
Altus Regional was honored to support the Women in Maritime Day 2024 Workshop as part of its ongoing commitment to regional maritime development and sectoral empowerment. Altus Regional Team members Zaria Sandiford and Gabriella Greenidge volunteered their time to assist with workshop logistics, welcoming attendees, managing registration, and preparing materials that helped ensure the event’s success. Their contribution reflects Altus Regional’s values of volunteerism, excellence, and community-driven impact.
The Mobilizing Networks for Gender Equality Workshop was hosted by the Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WIMAC) Barbados Chapter and received generous support from sponsors, some of which included the Ministry of Environment and the Blue Economy and Barbados Port Inc.
