Maritime Consultant Role
Altus Regional Consulting Solutions (Caribbean) Ltd. is seeking dynamic Maritime Consultants to join our network. The ideal candidate will work as part of our team, developing solutions for the maritime that help our clients achieve their strategic objectives and drive revenue growth. This role requires a deep understanding of the maritime industry. Maritime Consultants will work closely with cross-functional teams to conduct feasibility studies and impact assessments, provide advice on port management strategies, co-ordinate marine casualty management and develop policies and programs in alignment with our client’s strategic objectives. Consequently, strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential. Experience in the Caribbean maritime sector is also a plus. Our Ideal Maritime Consultant
The ideal Maritime Consultant will be a highly skilled professional with a deep understanding of the maritime industry and the specific challenges and opportunities it presents in the Caribbean region. This individual would possess a strong educational background in maritime studies or a related field, complemented by extensive experience in maritime operations, policy development, and strategic planning. They would be adept at navigating the regulatory landscape, ensuring compliance while also advocating for sustainable practices that align with the blue economy principles. Exceptional analytical skills would enable them to assess risks and formulate comprehensive solutions to complex maritime issues.
In addition, the ideal candidate will be well-connected within the Caribbean maritime industry, possessing the strategic insight to forge and foster international partnerships. Leadership qualities would be paramount, as they would be expected to lead projects, manage teams, and drive change within the wider maritime community. Education Background
A Masters Degree in Port Management, Maritime Law, Ocean Policy, Environmental Studies, or a related field is required; a Master's Degree would be preferred.
Experience Required
At least 5 years of experience in working in a senior position in the maritime industry, with particular focus on the Caribbean. International experience is a plus.
Duties, Responsibilities, Skills & Proficiency
The Maritime Consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that align with our client’s policy and organizational goals. In addition, this role includes conducting research, analyzing data, creating detailed policies, programs, plans, and procedures, and overseeing the implementation of maritime initiatives. Further, the consultant will provide expert advice on port and terminal management, marine casualty management, decarbonization and digitalization, and building resilience and driving sustainability in maritime transportation across the Caribbean. Effective communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a results-driven approach are essential for this position.
Responsibilities
The Maritime Consultant will be required to:
- Evaluate and analyze maritime operations and procedures to ensure optimal performance.
- Provide expert advice on maritime regulations and best practices to maintain compliance and enhance safety.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve maritime operations, including efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Advise on risk management and safety procedures to minimize hazards in maritime activities.
- Conduct research and stay abreast of industry trends and developments to provide informed recommendations.
- Assist with dispute resolution and legal matters related to maritime operations, acting as an expert witness when necessary.
- Prepare detailed reports, plans, and forecasts on maritime activities to support decision-making processes.
- Provide technical advice on marine equipment, port equipment, and maritime safety standards.
- Review and evaluate port operations and procedures to ensure compliance with international maritime laws and regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and inspections of port facilities to uphold safety standards.
- Advise on the acquisition, sale, and charter of vessels, providing valuable market insights and negotiation support.
- Participate in maritime training and education programs to share knowledge and expertise with industry professionals.
- Keep updated with the latest developments, trends, and technologies in the maritime industry to maintain a competitive edge.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to promote sustainable practices within the maritime sector.
Skills/Expertise
- Proven Experience: A track record as a Maritime Consultant or a similar role, demonstrating hands-on experience in the maritime sector.
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in maritime studies, naval architecture, marine engineering, or a related field is typically required.
- Maritime Regulations Knowledge: Deep understanding of international and local maritime laws and safety regulations.
- Technical Expertise: Ability to provide technical advice on ship designs, marine equipment, and maritime safety standards.
- Analytical Skills: Strong capabilities in analyzing and interpreting complex data related to maritime operations.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proficiency in identifying issues and developing strategic solutions within the maritime context.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities, including presentation skills to convey complex information effectively.
- Strategic Planning: Competence in developing and implementing maritime strategies to enhance operational efficiency and performance.
- Risk Management: Skills in conducting risk assessments and inspections of vessels and port facilities.
- Report Writing: Aptitude for preparing detailed reports, plans, and forecasts on maritime activities.
- Legal Acumen: Familiarity with maritime legal disputes and the ability to provide expert witness services.
